Here at Mainely Skiing, we are all about skiing and ease of use at different mountain resorts. Sunday River is an incredible mountain if you want nice terrain close to the Portland area. Read all about it and as you prepare for an awesome day at Sunday River.

All trails at Sunday River are thoughtfully designed with skiing and snowboarding in mind. Take a cruiser down Lower Lazy River or warm-up on American Express. Whatever you are into, Sunday River has trails that side best with you! While looking at the trails below, look for that special symbol as those are Keegan’s favorite trails and the ones he recommends.

White Cap Area:

The White Cap area is serviced by three lifts. Most of the trails are groomed and this area is separated from the more advanced upper mountain terrain creating a peaceful learning environment.

Green Cheese – A loop trail mountain right of the Little White Cap Bullwheel.
Lower Moonstruck – A wide, straight trail perfect to learn on.
Village Trail – A little C-shaped diversion trail off of White Cap Quad.
Bear Paw – Snaking its way down the mountain, this trail will take you over to Barker Lodge.
 Cutoff – A smooth, easy trail.
 Heat’s Off – A steeper trail off of White Heat Quad.
 Heat’s On – An easier trail that brings you back to the loading area of White Heat.
 Jibe – A curvy trail that is under White Cap
 Lower Tempest – The trail under the lift.
 Salvation – The easiest way down from the White Cap Mountain Summit.
 Starburst – The main trail under the Little White Cap Lift.
 Starlight – A winding trail that starts with Assumption.
 Upper Moonstruck – The trail first off the lift.
 Wildfire – A quick trail that leads to condos.
Assumption – This trail is a cutoff trail to lead over to White Heat.
Obsession – A long trail from the summit of White Cap Mountain.
Snowbound – A leading trail to Obsession.
Starstruck – A glade that drops into Moonstruck or Starburst.
Starwood – A glade that drops into Starlight or Starburst.
Upper Tempest – A winding, tricky trail that is located under the lift.
 Chutzpa – A long glade that goes the entire length of White Heat.
 Hard Ball – The trail right next to the White Heat Trail.
 Shock Wave – A curving trail that goes around the mountain left of White Cap Mountain.
 White Heat – This trail is the lift line to the White Heat Quad.

Locke Mountain Area:

The Locke Mountain area is serviced by one chairlift and one surface lift. Most of the trails are groomed and this area is mostly the racing area. It also is the first to open.

Over Easy – This short trail takes you to Barker Mountain Lodge.
Road Runner – Takes you all the way down to White Cap Lodge.
 Cascades – A trail avoiding the racing trail. This still takes you to Barker Mountain Lodge.
 Goat Path – Takes you over to meet up with Lazy River.
 Lower Monday Mourning – One of the racing trails at Sunday River.
 Lower Upper Cut – This short connection trail takes you to Sunday Punch.
 Race Arena – This can also be on the Monday Mourning Trail.
  Sunday Punch – This trail takes you over to Barker Mountain Express.
  Upper Sunday Punch – The easiest way down to stay on Locke Mountain.
Bim’s Whim – This trail is a roundabout trail from the top Bullwheel of Locke Mountain. This trail brings you into Cascades.
Crossbow – This short trail takes you over to Sunday Punch.
Jims Whim – A very short glade at the top of the chair.
Locke Line – This trail is under the Locke Mountain Lift Line on the upper part.
Poma Road – This trail is a short one that takes you over to Jim’s Whim.
T2 – This trail merges onto Monday Mourning.
Tightwire – The trail under the lift.
Upper Cut – This short trail takes you to Ecstasy.
Upper Monday Mourning – One of the racing trails at Sunday River.

Barker Mountain Area:

The Barker Mountain area is serviced by one lift. Barker Mountain also has a ski patrol building at the summit.

Three Mile Trail – This trail runs from the summit of Barker Mountain all the way over to North Peak Lodge.
 Ecstasy – This goes all the way over and turns into Cascades at Locke Mountain.
 Jungle Road – A cutoff to the middle of Locke Mountain.
 Lazy River – This trail runs over to Exit Right.
 Outta Here – A short connector trail running from Tourist Trap over to Lower Lazy River.
 Rocking Chair – On the other side of Flow Stage.
 Sluice – A cutoff from Three Mile Trail.
 South Paw – A cutoff from Lower Upper Cut.
 Tourist Trap – This trail technically starts at North Peak.
Last Tango – A big wooded area where you can drop in from Lazy River.
Right Stuff – Running alongside Top Gun and on the tree line of Last Tango.
 Agony – The trail that is under the lift for the upper part.
 Hollywood – A glade that runs in between Top Gun and Agony.
  Top Gun – Top Gun runs from the summit of Barker Mountain and goes all the way until meeting up with Lower Sunday Punch.

South Ridge Area:

The South Ridge area is serviced by two chairlifts and three surface lifts. All of the trails are groomed and this area is a good place to learn.

Double Dipper – The other trail that is an option when Sundance is too crowded.
Easy Street – A connecter from Barker Mountain Express and Barker Mountain Lodge over to South Ridge Lodge and all the lifts in South Ridge.
Exit Right – A short trail that brings you into the many terrain parks in this area.
Express Lane –
Lower Broadway – This trail comes out into South Ridge Lodge.
Lower Chondi Line – The trail that the Chondola runs up.
Lower Lazy River – The trail that the Chondola runs up.
Mixing Bowl – A perfect trail that leads over to Barker Mountain.
Northway – A cutoff trail that goes over to Southway.
Ridge Express – The loop trail from Ridge Run.
Ridge Run – A swooping trail that leads into Ridge Express.
Southway – This trail is the extension of Dream Maker.
Spectator – A little trail perfect for the little ones.
Sundance – The main trail the Lower, Middle, and Upper Sundance surface lifts run up. These are awesome for people who are learning and don’t feel comfortable loading a chair.
Thataway – A connector trail that leads to Spruce Peak.
Upper Broadway – The trail that South Ridge runs up.

Spruce Peak Area:

The Spruce Peak area is serviced by one chairlift.

The trails serviced from this chair include:

Sirius – The easiest way down from the summit.
  American Express – A tricky trail that intersects Three Mile Trail.
 Exit Left – A quick way to get from North Peak back over to Spruce Peak.
 Lower Downdrift – The easier side of Downdrift which can take you to the Chondola or back to Spruce Peak.
 Lower Risky Business – This trail runs next to the Spruce Peak Triple.
 Overdraft – A cut trail that brings you over to the North Peak Summit.
  Upper Risky Business – This trail snakes its way down from the top.
Upper Downdraft – An expert trail that leads to Lights Out.
 Gnarnia – The trail under the lift.

North Peak Area:

The North Peak area is serviced by two chairlifts. Most of the trails are groomed and this area is where the Chondola is.

Backside – A trail that leads out of North Peak.
Broadway Connection – The main trail under the Chondola.
Dream Maker – A roundabout trail coming from the unload of North Peak Express.
Polaris – This trail takes you from the Quantum Leap over to Sensation.
Second Mile – A snaking trail from the North Peak Lodge.
Second Thoughts – A cutoff trail that leads from Southway to Ridge Run.
Sensation – A trail that starts at Polaris.
 3D – 
 Absolutely – The main trail that North Peak Express runs up.
  Enchanted Forest – An easy glade at the base of the North Peak Express.
 Escapade – The trail from Dream Maker over to North Peak Express.
 Grand Rapids – A quick trail from the summit of North Peak over to the Chondola.
 Lazy Mile – A cutoff trail from T72 Park over to Escapade.
 Peak Easy – Right at the unload of North Peak.
 T72 Lower – A very wide trail as it holds the terrain park.
 T72 Upper – A very wide trail as it holds the terrain park.
 Upper Chondi Line – The trail that the Chondola ran up.
Yetiville – A glade that runs into Ridge Run Trail.
 North Woods – A cut over to Northern Exposure which starts on Last Mile.
 Northern Exposure – This is the main trail under the North Peak Express.

Aurora Peak Area:

The Aurora Peak area is serviced by one chairlift.

Aludra – A cutoff from Sirius.
Borealis – The easiest way down from the Aurora Peak summit,
Lights Out – A trail that starts off of Aludra and runs over to North Peak.
 Firestar – A cutoff trail from Northern Lights that leads over to Jordan Mountain Express.
 Northern Lights – The Northern Lights trail can take you to Jordan Bowl.
 Paradigm – A cutoff trail from Lights Out.
 Witch Way – An easier way to get over to Oz Mountain.
Airglow – A straight shot down from the summit.
Upper Airglow – A straight shot down from the summit.
 Black Hole – A cutoff train from Airglow.
 Celestial – This glade runs into Quantum Leap
 Quantum Leap – This trail comes from the Quantum Leap Triple.
 Super Nova – This trail shoots off of the Airglow trail and goes under the lift.
 Vortex – This trail is steep and starts from Sirius.

Oz Area:

The Oz area is serviced by one chairlift and is mostly expert terrain.

Cowardly Lion – The easiest way down from the Oz Summit.
Cyclone – The trail that all the expert trails run into.
Kansas – Starts at the Cowardly Lion trail and runs to Aurora Peak.
State Fair – An easy trail that leads over to Jordan Bowl.
Eureka – A long wooded trail that runs into Cyclone.
Lost Princess – A long expert trail that runs into Cyclone.
 Emerald City – A tight trail that drops out onto Cyclone.
 Flyin’ Monkey – A glade coming from Witch Way.
 Poppy Fields – A glade that drops out onto Cyclone.
 Ruby Palace – The main trail that runs under the Oz Quad.
  Tin Woodsman – A tight line trail that runs the entire length.

Jordan Bowl Area:

The Jordan Bowl area is serviced by the only High-Speed 8 Pack Chairlift in the state of Maine. Jordan 8 was installed over the summer of 2022.

Grand Avenue – A smooth trail that is easy to learn on.
Lollapalooza – The longest trail at Sunday River coming in at 3 miles!
Roundabout – A trail to the Jordan Mountain Hotel.
 Excalibur – Running next to Rogue Angle, this trail runs as long as the Jordan Mountain Express.
 Rogue Angle – This trail allows access to Wizard’s Gulch.
Blind Ambition – A massive glave with Lollapalooza running around it.
 Caramba – The main trail under the Jordan Mountain Express.
 Wizard’s Gulch – A quick glade that runs to State Fair.

Merrill Hill Area:

The Merrill Hill area is serviced by one triple chairlift. This recent development brought new trails, a new lift, and new real estate to this area. As of 2021, this is all new!

Brilliant – A smooth trail just off of the top bullwheel.
Spectra – The longest trail in this area. This trail takes skiers back to the South Ridge Base Area via the Ridge Run trail.
Double Refraction – A smooth trail that takes skiers back to the Second Thoughts trail.
 Prism – A winding trail that ends on the Spectra trail.

Sunday River has some of the biggest and best terrain parks in the state of Maine.

Flow State (S/M/L) – Located off of Barker Mountain Express. An intermediate-level board course.
Who-Ville (S) – Located off of South Ridge Express. A small park with jumps, berms, and boxes designed for kids and those who ae learning how to ride the park.
Schoolyard (M/L) – Located off of North Peak Express. This medium-sized park is set up with jumps, rails, and boxes.
Wonderland Park (S) – Located off of South Ridge Express. A small, easy park for the kids. Featuring snow rollers and berms.
3D Park (M/L) – Located off of North Peak Express. A medium-sized park with jumps, rails, and boxes.
T72 Park (M/L/XL) – Located off of North Peak Express. The biggest park at Sunday River. This 15-acre park features a jump line, rails, boxes, and jib garden.
