    Looking For A Rangeley Double Chair:

    Hey Mainely Skiers! I’ve been looking for a chair from Saddleback’s Rangeley Double pretty much since they removed the lift in 2020. I would love to find one that matches the following description:

    • Intact (Nothing was destroyed)
    • Not altered in any way (looks like it could be put back on the line)
    • Safety Bar is still functional on the chair

    Help Black Mountain This Weekend:

    On Tuesday, Black Mountain posted to social media asking for some volunteers to help move firewood to their firepit area. The project, which is led by Greg Martin, the head of the lift operations department, is happening this Saturday and Sunday at 9am. Drive up the road on the novice trail and you’ll see the pile!     New Snowmaking at BigRock:

    Yesterday, BigRock posted some photos to Facebook of new snowmaking equipment. The new guns will quadruple the snowmaking output. These guns are completely automated which means they’ll be making the highest quality snow in all types of weather conditions. See the post below.

    In a photo posted to Sugarloaf’s Facebook page from Maine Drone Imaging, you can see the West Mountain development starting to take form. With roads in place and some house foundations already poured, the crews are making quick work on the area! See the full post below.

    Lace up your running shoes and drive to Lost Valley tonight for their first Trails In The Valley event, a weekly running club that takes place every Friday at 6:00pm.     Time to tee off, Mainely Skiers! All golf courses are open and looking good. Your location tells you a lot about where your next round will be played, but I can assure you that wherever you go, you’ll have a great time out on the course. When outside, remember to bring sunscreen, bug spray, water, and tick repellent. It’s also a good idea to wear pants to protect yourself against ticks. Do tick checks often!

    Statewide Lift Construction:

    Across the state, there are three mountains that are installing chairlifts. Pleasant Mountain is installing a refurbished Doppelmayr High-Speed Quad, BigRock Mountain is installing a new Doppelmayr Quad, and Lost Valley is installing a used Hall Double Chair.

    Please Note: Due to lift construction, hiking at Pleasant Mountain is currently prohibited.

    On Monday, Big Rock posted a video to Facebook of the haul rope getting hung on the towers. While the bottom terminal isn’t in place yet, the concrete structure is there. See the full video HERE

    On Wednesday, Lost Valley posted a photo to Instagram showing Fall Line Construction breaking ground on Chair #3. Currently, they are digging the foundation to the bottom station. Watch the video HERE

    A weekend-long trail running festival that’s happening this weekend brings top elite and amateur runners together to compete for $10,000 in prize money and XTERRA championship crowns in both full and half marathon distances.     Exciting News From Black Mountain:

    On Monday, Black Mountain posted a video to social media sharing information on a 1.2 million, yes you read that right, dollar project that will happen in the summer of 2025. The project will feature 14 new fixed snowguns on the St. John and Allagash trails and will double their snowmaking pond. With more guns and more water, Black Mountain also announced new snowmaking pumps which will live in a new state-of-the-art pump house. They promise a longer season and better snow conditions.     You can definitely tell that cooler weather is upon us and coming quickly! This past week was proof that fall is almost here and the weather has been amazing with the cool temps.

    The extended forecast is showing temps won’t climb much above 75 degrees with the average temp hovering around 67. This weekend will see some warmth and mostly sunny skies today, but Saturday and Sunday have some clouds rolling in which could bring rain.

    The cooler weather continued this week as most of the early parts saw rain and temps in the 60’s. As it looks right now, we’re on the other side of the hump and fall is coming!

    The extended forecast is showing temps won’t climb much above 75 degrees with the average temp hovering around 70. This weekend will see some warmth and mostly sunny skies today and tomorrow, but Sunday has clouds rolling in.

    Statewide Lift Construction:

    Across the state, there are three mountains that are installing chairlifts. Pleasant Mountain is installing a refurbished Doppelmayr High-Speed Quad, BigRock Mountain is installing a new Doppelmayr Quad, and Lost Valley is installing a used Hall Double Chair.

    Please Note: Due to lift construction, hiking at Pleasant Mountain is currently prohibited.

    Sunday River’s Tough Mountain Challenge

    The Tough Mountain Challenge, happening Saturday, July 27, has been the most popular and most fun adventure obstacle race in New England since 2010.     Maine Audubon’s Statewide Loon Count:

    On the morning of the third Saturday of July each year, more than 1,600 volunteers venture onto lakes and ponds across the state to count loons. The observations recorded by the community scientist volunteers provide an excellent “snapshot” of Maine’s loon population. The 41st Annual Loon Count will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 7 -7:30 am. Learn more below.

    The Tough Mountain Challenge, happening Saturday, July 27, has been the most popular and most fun adventure obstacle race in New England since 2010. Set in the mountains of Maine, Tough Mountain delivers mud, sweat, and beer to 3,600 competitors every year. Spanning over three miles with 20+ obstacles, this is no easy race.     Going Up Is Getting Faster:

    Pleasant Mountain announced The Summit Express. After 86 years, the mountain will finally add a high-speed, detachable quad to their lift lineup. The lift, which is a Doppelmayr refurbished High-Speed Quad, will take skiers and riders up to the top in under 5 minutes. The lift came from Sunday River’s Jordan Express lift and will be installed this summer.

    Across the state, there are three mountains that are installing chairlifts. Pleasant Mountain is installing a refurbished Doppelmayr High-Speed Quad, BigRock Mountain is installing a new Doppelmayr Quad, and Lost Valley is installing a used Hall Double Chair.

    Please Note: Due to lift construction, hiking at Pleasant Mountain is currently prohibited.

    Adding Their 3rd Double:

    Lost Valley in Auburn will be installing a used Hall Double on the Coyote Trail marking 3 double chairs at the ski area. The lift comes from Connecticut’s Mt. Southington and will fill a much-needed void on the left side of the mountain. Chair #3 will be installed this summer.

    A More Comfortable Ride:

    BigRock Mountain in Mars Hill will be installing a brand new Doppelmayr Quad this summer. The new lift, which will have the same name as the double that currently sits in its place, will be called Gemini. BigRock started fundraising for the project back in 2021 but has secured enough for the payment to Doppelmayr. The surveying took place last summer, and construction is expected to start in the spring.

    – Sugarloaf will spin the Whiffletree Quad every weekend this summer
    – Pleasant Mountain revokes all mountain access as progress on the Summit Express moves forward
