    Big Moose Mountain Summit:

    There has been a lot of talk recently about the summit of Big Moose Mountain. The area, which hasn’t offered lift-serviced skiing since March of 2004, has been making waves in the ski community. Recently, the non-profit has completed servaying and testing of the area and have been rasing the funds to rebuild the summit ski patrol building. In a post to Facebook earlier this week, they teased something more than just a building but we’ll have to wait and see if they announce anything more on that subject.     Sugarloaf Bike Park Showcases New Map:

    If you aren’t already excited to check out ‘Maine’s Newest Bike Park’, seeing their brand new trail map might change things for you. Recently, the resort posted the trail map ahead of their July 4 opening. Check it out and learn more about their bike park below.

    Saddleback Lift Service:

    Saddleback recently completed work on their South Branch Quad. This work was on the lift’s haul rope. A photo posted by one of their lift maintenance team members, Wilkins, showed the progress.

    Last week, Indy Pass released a new program where you can get a free Indy Pass by sporting some version of “IndyPass”, “SkiIndy”, or whatever else you can come up with on your license plate.     Sugarloaf Bike Park Opening July 4:

    ‘New England’s Newest Mountain Bike Park’ will be opening in the Whiffletree Area on July 4th weekend. Lift tickets are as low as $25 for the whole day. On Friday and Saturday, the lift will spin from 10:00am – 6:00pm and 10:00am – 4:00pm on Sundays. Learn more and purchase your ticket by clicking the link below.

    44th Annual Logging Festival:

    The 44th Annual Logging Festival will be taking place in Rangeley Maine on July 11th and 12th. This year’s parade theme is “Forests From Around The World”.     Lift Tower At Sunday River Struck By Rock:

    On a video posted to YouTube on Saturday, a young skier was walking down the Ruby Palace trail before slipping and dislodging a rock. The rock tumbled down the trail until it hit a tower on the Oz Quad.

    This is a reminder that you should never take your skis off and walk down any trail. Watch the video by clicking the link below.

    Two Maine Trails Made Top Funniest Runs:

    Two trails from Maine mountains have earned the title of ‘Top 18 Funniest Ski Run Names’ according to Powder Magazine. The trails had some competition as they included runs like Awe Chute at Winter Park CO, and Organgrinder at Sugarbush VT. The two from the Pine Tree State are Gnarnia at Sunday River and Misery Whip at Sugarloaf. See the full list by clicking the link below.

    BMOM Golf Tournament:

    Black Mountain of Maine’s board of directors presents the annual golf tournament at Oakdale Country Club. This 18 hole, 4 ball scramble is on June 14th with an 8:00am registration & 9:00am start.     Calling all Sugarloaf Passholders! Celebrate the season with food on the mountain at this year’s Pass Holder BBQ. The event is on Sunday, April 20 and you need to display your season pass before entering the buffet line. Food will be served from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.

    Easter Activities at Saddleback:

    Saddleback will be celebrating Easter all over the mountain. The ski area will be doing an Easter Service at the top of the Rangeley Quad, followed by brunch at The Nest at 9:30am. An Easter Egg hunt will happen for the kiddos based on the following times. For 7 and under, 11am, 8 and older will be at 1pm. Saddleback will also once again be doing the golden egg which could be placed all over the mountain. Keep an eye out for that as if you find it, you will get a free season pass for next year.     For those who skied in the great 207 on Tuesday, you know your day was quickly changed. The two resorts still open for mid-week skiing saw afternoon lightning storms, which closed both Sunday River and Sugarloaf. The Loaf actually saw some problems related to the lighting, as King Pine is still closed.     Pond-A-Palooza:

    Sunday River’s Annual Pond Skim is on Saturday, April 12. Registration is free, but in order to secure a spot, head over to the Welcome Center at South Ridge Lodge between 9:00am-10:30am to sign up and get your bib number.     If it weren’t for the wind… This week we saw harsh conditions after the thaw, then freeze which closed most trails around the state. Followed by strong winds keeping lifts closed, we’re hoping to pull away from the wacky weather and get back on track with sunshine and warm temps.     Gear Theft Around The State:

    There have been multiple incidents of theft happening around the state at various mountains. While this could be a total accident, please make sure you are putting your skis/snowboards on the racks (and remember where you put it), snapping into your skis when you head out onto the hill, and leaving for the day with your equipment. If you happen to take someone’s gear by accident, make sure to reach out to the resort that the accident happened at. It can also help put out a Facebook post on that mountain’s group.     What a rollercoaster of a week! We started with some warm temperatures, getting upwards of 40 degrees during mid-day, and then we got rain, followed by snow, followed by wind. See the full weather report below and make sure to keep an eye on our Resort Status page as some resorts are yet to reopen.

    Gear Theft Around The State:

    There have been multiple incidents of theft happening around the state at various mountains. While this could be a total accident, please make sure you are putting your skis/snowboards on the racks (and remember where you put it), snapping into your skis when you head out onto the hill, and leaving for the day with your equipment. If you happen to take someone’s gear by accident, make sure to reach out to the resort that the accident happened at. It can also help put out a Facebook post on that mountain’s group.     Thankfully the earlier forecasts of ra*n have held off and delivered snow instead. Thursday saw snow totals of upwards of 6 inches, adding to the running month total of over 5 feet! As the resorts are looking better by the day, It’s time to start booking your trip!

    Weather:

    What’s a snow event without wind? Some winds will be impacting lifts today but as we prepare for tomorrow, we’re looking at upwards of 5 more inches of snow! Keep doing those snow dances! Keep an eye on the Mountain Lift Status page to stay in the loop with the current lift status.
