The 44th Annual Logging Festival will be taking place in Rangeley Maine on July 11th and 12th. This year’s parade theme is “Forests From Around The World”. Camden Snow Bowl have been working on a new master plan for the resort and surrounding area and a few weeks ago, they presented it to the town. In it, the mountain could be adding new mountain biking trails, a new lodge, and potentially a new lift better equiped for higher demand. Another week of summer is now behind us. With moderate temps all weekend long, it was great to get outside. There has been a lot of talk recently about the summit of Big Moose Mountain. The area, which hasn’t offered lift-serviced skiing since March of 2004, has been making waves in the ski community. Recently, the non-profit has completed servaying and testing of the area and have been rasing the funds to rebuild the summit ski patrol building. In a post to Facebook earlier this week, they teased something more than just a building but we’ll have to wait and see if they announce anything more on that subject. If you aren’t already excited to check out ‘Maine’s Newest Bike Park’, seeing their brand new trail map might change things for you. Recently, the resort posted the trail map ahead of their July 4 opening. Check it out and learn more about their bike park below.
Saddleback recently completed work on their South Branch Quad. This work was on the lift’s haul rope. A photo posted by one of their lift maintenance team members, Wilkins, showed the progress.

‘New England’s Newest Mountain Bike Park’ will be opening in the Whiffletree Area on July 4th weekend. Lift tickets are as low as $25 for the whole day. Gosh! Last weekend was amazing: no rain, warm temps, and endless sunshine. While today looks a little rough, the luminous glow of sunshine on Saturday will make it all worth it!

Rangeley Birding Festival:
The Rangeley Birding Festival is a four-day event that is all about birds in and around the Rangeley area. Starting next weekend on Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8. With signature events like lift rides up Saddleback’s Rangeley Express, A Paddle on the Kennebago River, and activities for all ages. Purchase tickets on their website below and see the full event schedule there.
Downeast Magazine’s Best of Maine 2025 voting is now open. Five ski mountains are on the list this year. Camden Snow Bowl, Mt. Abram, Saddleback, Sugarloaf, and Sunday River are all up for the title of Best Ski Mountain in Maine. While I won’t tell you which mountain I voted for, here are my other votes for the categories:

The Saddleback Bike Park will be opening their trails to pedal power only next Friday, June 13th. While the South Branch Quad isn’t slated to open until July 3, the trails are ready to rip. Check out the map and purchase tickets using the link below.
The Lupine Festival will be happening on Saturday, June 14 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Outdoor Heritage Museum. Located at 8 Rumford Road in Oquossoc, over 40 local Maine vendors will be there. The Museum and its store will also be open for visitors. Admission is free but access to the museum’s exhibits are $8.00 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. Learn more on their website below.
Black Mountain of Maine’s board of directors presents the annual golf tournament at Oakdale Country Club. This 18 hole, 4 ball scramble is on June 14th with an 8:00am registration & 9:00am start. Lunch will be at 2:00pm & is included with the registration fee. The deadline to register is May 28th. Learn more below.
The Titcomb Ski Club Educational Foundation will be hosting a golf tournament on Monday, June 16. Shotgun start at 9:00am at Sugarloaf Golf Course. For additional questions or to register, click the link below.
A brand new sticker has just hit the shop with the release of the state’s new pine tree license plate. The new sticker matches our Chickadee Plate with “Skier” as the text. Pick one up today to match your new plate!
Mt. Abram has been hard at work getting their mountain bike trails and lifts ready to go. Unfortunately, their lifts need some work before they can load guests. This lift work has resulted in the bike park opening much later than anticipated with the opening date set for June 19. Learn more and purchase tickets below.
On Monday, Big Moose Mountain attended the Town of Greenville’s meeting where they received a $50,000 pledge toward the acquisition of the ski resort property, thanks to a strong showing of support. On Tuesday, the Watt Family and the Indian Hill Trading Post put up a matching $50,000 pledge toward the mission. The non-profit is looking good right now but there is still lots to go! I wasn’t complaining about those warm temps we saw in the later part of this week. The sunshine was a welcome change from what has become the normal of clouds, rain, and cold weather.
Weather:
We’re looking at a little bit of a cool down compared to the recent temperatures. Although this brings it back to normal temps this time of year, the rain isn’t looking good. Take today or Sunday and get out, swing a club, explore the birds, or hit any of your favorite hiking trails.

The Sugarloaf Golf Club is continuing their early-season tradition of collecting canned food in exchange for discounted golf rounds during the annual Tin Mountain Round Up. This weekend, golfers can play 18 holes for just $49, with cart included, by donating three or more non-perishable food items to benefit local food banks. On Thursday, the mountain posted to Facebook asking for help. They are currently in the permitting process with LUPC to reconstruct the former Ski Patrol Cabin & training center at the top of the mountain. The goal is that this project will be a community build, ideally fall of this year. If this effort is something that you would like to be involved in, reach out to the non-profit. They are asking for help with engineering, design, materials, fundraising, and labor. They ended the post hinting at a new summit lift. Read the full post below.
A brand new sticker has just hit the shop with the release of the state’s new pine tree license plate. The new sticker matches our Chickadee Plate with “Skier” as the text. Pick one up today to match your new plate!
The Rangeley Birding Festival is a four-day event that is all about birds in and around the Rangeley area. Starting next weekend on Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8. With signature events like lift rides up Saddleback’s Rangeley Express, A Paddle on the Kennebago River, and activities for all ages. Downeast Magazine’s Best of Maine 2025 voting is now open. Five ski mountains are on the list this year. Camden Snow Bowl, Mt. Abram, Saddleback, Sugarloaf, and Sunday River are all up for the title of Best Ski Mountain in Maine. While I won’t tell you which mountain I voted for, here are my other votes for the categories:

What was going to be the first summer since 2018 where no new lifts were getting installed in Maine, Titcomb has signed a contract with Doppelmayr to replace T-Bar 2 with a brand new one! Titcomb has been fundraising for a few months now trying to raise enough money to add 3-phase power to the mountain, improve snowmaking, and of course, replace T-Bars 1 and 2. Currently, Lift 2 is removed and production has started on the new lift. The mountain is continuing to fundraise with a hope that both lifts 1 and 2 could be replaced. On Monday, Big Moose Mountain posted to Facebook with some exciting updates. For starters, the non-profit received a check for $25,000 from the Gardner Family Trust. The mountain also posted about receiving a 2014 Prinoth BR350 groomer. They say this will help modernize their fleet and bring more reliability to the Greenville Mountain. The Lupine Festival will be happening on Saturday, June 14 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Outdoor Heritage Museum. Located at 8 Rumford Road in Oquossoc, over 40 local Maine vendors will be there. The Museum and its store will also be open for visitors. Admission is free but access to the museum’s exhibits are $8.00 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. Learn more on their website below.
Mt. Abram has been hard at work getting their mountain bike trails and lifts ready to go. Unfortunately, their lifts need some work before they can load guests. This lift work has resulted in the bike park opening much later than anticipated with the opening date set for June 19. Learn more and purchase tickets below.
Take part in something amazing happening at Mt. Abram Bike Park! On Saturday, June 21, WinterKids will be hosting a 12-hour mountain bike and trail running challenge. This is both a physical challenge and a meaningful fundraiser. Sign up and learn more by clicking the link below.

We saw some heat this past week! Warm temps and sunny skies carried us through a few days this week before going right back into this cold and rainy stage. Hopefully that will all be ending as Sunday starts the month of June!

Last week’s snow has all been melted and we’re moving on from snow. Sadly we’re just moving to thawed snow and cold-ish temps this weekend. Should be a great day to get out on the course today! Sunday too if you’re ok with your feet getting a little wet.

Black Mountain in Rumford has been busy working inside, which was perfect given all of the recent rain, replacing their old flooring. They have been wripping out the carpet and will be replacing it with fresh, new stuff. See all of the photos on their Facebook page, linked below.
Saddleback is waking up from the Mud Season and gettign ready for Summer. The Pub is now open for the Summer Season. The Retail shop is also open. While the lift rides and mountain biking announcements will come later. Learn more on their website.
Sidecountry Sports is hosting a bike sale to benefit the trails at Camden Snow Bowl. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to Midcoast Trails Stewardship and earmarked to work directly with the Snow Bowl, and Camden Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Nathan to improve the trails at the Snow Bowl. All kinds of bikes are accepted — children’s, mountain, road, gravel and hybrids. Bikes must be in good working order to be accepted for the sale. Sidecountry is accepting bikes at its Rockland location, at 481 Main Street, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and at it Trailside location at the Camden Snow Bowl on Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23 from 3 to 7 p.m. See the article below.

The NSAA’s 2025 Safety Awards happned this week and one exciting announcement has come from the big convention: BigRock Mountain has won ‘Best Guest Safety Program’! The mountain won thanks to their innovative Ski4Life button program. The way it works is that wearing a green button shows that you are a complete beginner. A blue button states you are comfortable with skiing and riding to the triple chair. Finally, a black button states that you are fully able to go to the summit and that you are a strong intermediate skier. Congratulations BigRock and see the other winning mountains by clicking the link below.

What in the world? Winter isn’t done yet! Most high elevation areas saw a fresh dusting of SNOW *checks calendar* IN LATE MAY! This all happened yesterday and overnight last night.

After all those cold temperatures, apparently cold enough to snow, we will have just a few more days of this before Mother Nature will kindly give us some warmth and sunshine… even if it’s only short lived. Monday, Memorial Day looks nice! After all this rain and cold temperatures, I’m more than ready for warm days filled with LOTS of sunshine.

Before the non-profit can replace the summit lift or the top patrol shack, they must first work to learn more about the puddle at the top. This vernal pool is impacting getting permits from LUPC (Land Use Planning Commission). The mountain recently posted to Facebook asking if anyone is willing to help with their 2,938′ challenge, to reach out to them. Titcomb WILL Install A New T-Bar:
What was going to be the first summer since 2018 where no new lifts were getting installed in Maine, Titcomb has signed a contract with Doppelmayr to replace T-Bar 2 with a brand new one! Titcomb has been fundraising for a few months now trying to raise enough money to add 3-phase power to the mountain, improve snowmaking, and of course, replace T-Bars 1 and 2. Currently, Lift 2 is removed and production has started on the new lift. The mountain is continuing to fundraise with a hope that both lifts 1 and 2 could be replaced. Sunday River Golf Course recently started taking tee times for the upcoming golf season. The course has a tentative opening date of Friday, May 16 where they will be open ‘fore’ the weekend then closing Mon-Thurs and reopening for the season the following weekend. Skiing isn’t the only thing that puts Mt. Abram on the map. During the summer months, skis are swapped for mountain bikes and snow pants for knee pads. While the bike park hasn’t officially opened for the season as it’s too muddy and crews are working to bring the trails back to life, they did recently release a brand new trail map. The goal was to make the map more user friendly and more accurately reflect the riding experience at Mt. Abram. See the full map and learn more about their park by clicking the link below.

Black Mountain of Maine’s board of directors presents the annual golf tournament at Oakdale Country Club. This 18 hole, 4 ball scramble is on June 14th with an 8:00am registration & 9:00am start. Lunch will be at 2:00pm & is included with the registration fee. The deadline to register is May 28th. Learn more below.
Before the non-profit can replace the summit lift or the top patrol shack, they must first work to learn more about the puddle at the top. This vernal pool is impacting getting permits from LUPC (Land Use Planning Commission). The mountain recently posted to Facebook asking if anyone is willing to help with their 2,938′ challenge, to reach out to them. The NSAA’s 2025 Safety Awards have just been released and BigRock Mountain in Mars Hill is a finalist for “Best Guest Safety Program”. The mountain has some competition as it was next to Boreal Mountain in CA, and Shawnee Mountain Ski Area in PA. We’re rooting for BigRock! See the full list below.
The Rangeley Birding Festival is a four-day event that is all about birds in and around the Rangeley area. With signature events like lift rides up Saddleback’s Rangeley Express, A Paddle on the Kennebago River, and activites for all ages. The Lupine Festival will be happening on Saturday, June 14 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Outdoor Heritage Museum. Located at 8 Rumford Road in Oquossoc, over 40 local Maine vendors will be there. The Museum and its store will also be open for visitors. Admission is free but access to the museum’s exibits are $8.00 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. Learn more on their webiste below.

The 44th Annual Logging Festival will be taking place in Rangeley Maine on July 11th and 12th. This year’s parade theme is “Forests From Around The World”. The snow hasn’t even melted all the way and the crew at Big Moose has already started work on their Triple Chairlift. The team was working to replace the top bullwheel bearings, a new liner, and also some NDT testing for cracks and wear spots. With lots of rain this week, we are in the heart of Mud Season. We are looking at some sun with warm temps early next week which will hopefully dry things out. I don’t know about you, but I am itching to get back outside with good weather!

We’re looking ahead to a cold, classic spring-in-Maine weekend. For those headed out, don’t forget to pack a rain coat, umbrella, or at the very least, something with Gore-Tex. For better news, Sunday, Mother’s Day, is looking like some spotted sunshine. Bundle up as it will also have some strong wind gusts.

Sunday River Reopens This Weekend:
Sunday River is once again spinning the Jordan 8 on Saturday and Sunday this weekend before closing for the season on Sunday. Find their spring operating schedule along with our resort status page below.
Sugarloaf has announced that they could possibly close for the season on Sunday. They also shared that there could be a bonus day next Saturday where they would be open but that will depend on snowpack. For the full news, keep tabs on both our Resort Status page and their snow report.

On a video posted to YouTube on Saturday, a young skier was walking down the Ruby Palace trail before slipping and dislodging a rock. The rock tumbled down the trail until it hit a tower on the Oz Quad.

Two trails from Maine mountains have earned the title of ‘Top 18 Funniest Ski Run Names’ according to Powder Magazine. The trails had some competition as they included runs like Awe Chute at Winter Park CO, and Organgrinder at Sugarbush VT. The two from the Pine Tree State are Gnarnia at Sunday River and Misery Whip at Sugarloaf. See the full list by clicking the link below.
