    Maine Foliage Report:

The Maine Foliage Report brought to you by MaineFoliage.com

(AUGUSTA, Maine) – With autumn in full swing, Mainers and visitors can look forward to brilliant fall colors spreading across the state. The fourth2025 Fall Foliage Reportfrom the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) reports moderate to high color change (50-70 percent) throughout most of Maine with moderate (less than 50 percent) leaf drop. Northern Maine (zones 6 and 7) is showing significant color change (approaching 70-100 percent) with moderate leaf drop.

    This Week’s Foliage Outlook

“While we are seeing peak conditions in northern Maine and high color in portions of the western mountains, colors are still emerging daily in central and coastal regions,” said Gale Ross, fall foliage spokesperson. “This week’s seasonal days and cooler nights are helping bring out the best of Maines autumn palette. The canopies in western Maine are showing off their most vibrant colors, which makes for perfect timing for our leaf enthusiasts,” adds Ross.

(AUGUSTA, Maine) – With autumn’s arrival, Mainers and visitors can look forward to brilliant fall colors spreading across the state. The third2025 Fall Foliage Reportfrom the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) reports low to moderate color change (30-50 percent) throughout most of Maine, with very low to low leaf drop (less than 30 percent). Northern Maine (zones 6 and 7) is showing significant color change (approaching 70 percent) with low leaf drop.

    This Week’s Foliage Outlook

“The environmental cycle is occurring as it always does with the preparation of the ongoing season. In the fall, when the connection between the leaf and the tree begins to be blocked, the production of chlorophyll, which gives the leaves their green color, slows and then stops. Thus, the autumn colors emerge,” notes Gale Ross, DACF fall foliage spokesperson.

While the rain wasn’t the best for preserving the fall foliage, it was great for giving the snowmaking reservoirs a very well-deserved refresh. The Maine Foliage Report brought to you by MaineFoliage.com

(AUGUSTA, Maine) – With the first signs of autumn arriving in Maine, the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) is pleased to announce the official start of the 2025 foliage season, tracked and reported by DACF Fall Foliage Spokesperson Gale Ross.

    This Week’s Foliage Outlook

Northern Maine (zones 6 and 7) typically peaks in late September through early October. Central and western Maine follow around Indigenous Peoples’ Day, with coastal and southern regions reaching peak conditions in mid-to-late October.

“Although this summer’s drought may temper vibrancy and shorten the season in some areas, Maine will still deliver beautiful color statewide. Weather in the coming weeks will play the biggest role, as cool nights, warm sunny days, and shorter daylight drive the color change,” said Ross.

Sugarloaf has had a busy summer. With work being done all throughout the mountain. Crews have been hard at work replacing the haul rope for the SuperQuad. While some speculate this work is being done because there won’t be a replacement anytime soon, the real answer is that a haul rope has a lifespan and the cable is at the end of it’s safe timeline. Snowmaking has also been busy working on upgrading the main lines to 20″ pipes, they added a fourth booster pump at the mid-mountain pump house, and adding new snowmaking lines of some other trails. BigRock Says Goodbye To Former Lift:

BigRock Mountain posted that this is the summer they say goodbye to their former double chair. The lift, a 1970 Mueller Double chair originally installed at Evergreen Valley Ski Resort. When the mountain closed in the ’80s, the double sat for around a decade before being removed and brought to BigRock. The lift enhanced the skier experience as a spot to sit with a friend or stranger and have a 10-minute conversation. Last summer, crews from Doppelmayr finished an installation on a brand new quad chair which made this double not needed anymore. For those who want one of the 120+ chairs, you can for a donation of $200 or more. Read the original post below.
