The 44th Annual Logging Festival will be taking place in Rangeley Maine on July 11th and 12th. This year’s parade theme is “Forests From Around The World”. The parade will be on Saturday, July 12 and everyone is welcome to enter a float. To learn more, contact the Maine Forestry Museum’s Parade Coordinator, Linda Sikes at (207) 491-6566. Camden Snow Bowl have been working on a new master plan for the resort and surrounding area and a few weeks ago, they presented it to the town. In it, the mountain could be adding new mountain biking trails, a new lodge, and potentially a new lift better equiped for higher demand. Sugarloaf will once again be hosting the Summer Après Series on the Beach. The free concerts on the beach will be performed by the the following artists on the dates below.

Another week of summer is now behind us. With moderate temps all weekend long, it was great to get outside. Community Work Day:

There has been a lot of talk recently about the summit of Big Moose Mountain. The area, which hasn’t offered lift-serviced skiing since March of 2004, has been making waves in the ski community. Recently, the non-profit has completed servaying and testing of the area and have been rasing the funds to rebuild the summit ski patrol building. In a post to Facebook earlier this week, they teased something more than just a building but we’ll have to wait and see if they announce anything more on that subject. If you aren’t already excited to check out ‘Maine’s Newest Bike Park’, seeing their brand new trail map might change things for you. Recently, the resort posted the trail map ahead of their July 4 opening. Check it out and learn more about their bike park below.
Saddleback recently completed work on their South Branch Quad. This work was on the lift’s haul rope. A photo posted by one of their lift maintenance team members, Wilkins, showed the progress.

Gosh! Last weekend was amazing: no rain, warm temps, and endless sunshine. While today looks a little rough, the luminous glow of sunshine on Saturday will make it all worth it!

The Sugarloaf Golf Club is continuing their early-season tradition of collecting canned food in exchange for discounted golf rounds during the annual Tin Mountain Round Up. This weekend, golfers can play 18 holes for just $49, with cart included, by donating three or more non-perishable food items to benefit local food banks. On Thursday, the mountain posted to Facebook asking for help. They are currently in the permitting process with LUPC to reconstruct the former Ski Patrol Cabin & training center at the top of the mountain. The goal is that this project will be a community build, ideally fall of this year. If this effort is something that you would like to be involved in, reach out to the non-profit. They are asking for help with engineering, design, materials, fundraising, and labor. They ended the post hinting at a new summit lift. Read the full post below.

The Rangeley Birding Festival is a four-day event that is all about birds in and around the Rangeley area. Starting next weekend on Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8. With signature events like lift rides up Saddleback’s Rangeley Express, A Paddle on the Kennebago River, and activities for all ages. Downeast Magazine’s Best of Maine 2025 voting is now open. Five ski mountains are on the list this year. Camden Snow Bowl, Mt. Abram, Saddleback, Sugarloaf, and Sunday River are all up for the title of Best Ski Mountain in Maine. While I won’t tell you which mountain I voted for, here are my other votes for the categories:

Black Mountain of Maine’s board of directors presents the annual golf tournament at Oakdale Country Club. This 18 hole, 4 ball scramble is on June 14th with an 8:00am registration & 9:00am start. What was going to be the first summer since 2018 where no new lifts were getting installed in Maine, Titcomb has signed a contract with Doppelmayr to replace T-Bar 2 with a brand new one! Titcomb has been fundraising for a few months now trying to raise enough money to add 3-phase power to the mountain, improve snowmaking, and of course, replace T-Bars 1 and 2. Currently, Lift 2 is removed and production has started on the new lift. The mountain is continuing to fundraise with a hope that both lifts 1 and 2 could be replaced. On Monday, Big Moose Mountain posted to Facebook with some exciting updates. For starters, the non-profit received a check for $25,000 from the Gardner Family Trust. The mountain also posted about receiving a 2014 Prinoth BR350 groomer. They say this will help modernize their fleet and bring more reliability to the Greenville Mountain. The Lupine Festival will be happening on Saturday, June 14 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Outdoor Heritage Museum. Located at 8 Rumford Road in Oquossoc, over 40 local Maine vendors will be there. The Museum and its store will also be open for visitors. Admission is free but access to the museum’s exhibits are $8.00 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. Learn more on their website below.
Mt. Abram has been hard at work getting their mountain bike trails and lifts ready to go. Unfortunately, their lifts need some work before they can load guests. We saw some heat this past week! Warm temps and sunny skies carried us through a few days this week before going right back into this cold and rainy stage. Hopefully that will all be ending as Sunday starts the month of June!

Black Mountain in Rumford has been busy working inside, which was perfect given all of the recent rain, replacing their old flooring. They have been wripping out the carpet and will be replacing it with fresh, new stuff. See all of the photos on their Facebook page, linked below.
Saddleback is waking up from the Mud Season and gettign ready for Summer. The Pub is now open for the Summer Season. The Retail shop is also open. While the lift rides and mountain biking announcements will come later. Learn more on their website.
Sidecountry Sports is hosting a bike sale to benefit the trails at Camden Snow Bowl. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to Midcoast Trails Stewardship and earmarked to work directly with the Snow Bowl, and Camden Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Nathan to improve the trails at the Snow Bowl. All kinds of bikes are accepted — children’s, mountain, road, gravel and hybrids. Bikes must be in good working order to be accepted for the sale. Sidecountry is accepting bikes at its Rockland location, at 481 Main Street, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and at it Trailside location at the Camden Snow Bowl on Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23 from 3 to 7 p.m. See the article below.

The NSAA’s 2025 Safety Awards happned this week and one exciting announcement has come from the big convention: BigRock Mountain has won ‘Best Guest Safety Program’! The mountain won thanks to their innovative Ski4Life button program. The way it works is that wearing a green button shows that you are a complete beginner. A blue button states you are comfortable with skiing and riding to the triple chair. Finally, a black button states that you are fully able to go to the summit and that you are a strong intermediate skier. On Monday, Big Moose Mountain posted to Facebook with some exciting updates. For starters, the non-profit recieved a check for $25,000 from the Gardner Family Trust. The mountain also posted about recieving a 2014 Prinoth BR350 groomer. They say this will help modernize their fleet and bring more reliability to the Greenville Mountain. The Lupine Festival will be happening on Saturday, June 14 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Outdoor Heritage Museum. Located at 8 Rumford Road in Oquossoc, over 40 local Maine vendors will be there. Mt. Abram has been hard at work getting their mountain bike trails and lifts ready to go. Unfortunalty, their lifts need some work before they can load guests. This vernal pool is impacting getting permits from LUPC (Land Use Planning Commission). The mountain recently posted to Facebook asking if anyone is willing to help with their 2,938′ challenge, to reach out to them. While the bike park hasn’t officially opened for the season as it’s too muddy and crews are working to bring the trails back to life, they did recently release a brand new trail map. The goal was to make the map more user friendly and more accurately reflect the riding experience at Mt. Abram. See the full map and learn more about their park by clicking the link below.

With lots of rain this week, we are in the heart of Mud Season. We are looking at some sun with warm temps early next week which will hopefully dry things out. I don’t know about you, but I am itching to get back outside with good weather!

After 50 years of service, the two T-bars have reached the end of their journey. T-Bar 2 has been condemned and urgently needs replacement before next season. I hope everyone got to get outside this week for some sunshine! Sadly, it’s not looking good for sunny skies this weekend and beyond as the extended forecast is showing either rain or cloudy skies. Keep an eye on the weather if you’re headed out this weekend.
Weather:
This weekend is looking relatively warm, just try to stay away from the rain. The first weekend of 2025 without skiing… unless you go west. Black Mountain NH, Jay Peak VT, Killington VT, Sugarbush VT are the four left in New England. Cloudy skies this weekend will lead into more clouds next week. Fingers crossed the sun comes back to say hi – after this, we’ll need it!

Oquossoc Day 2024:
Saddle up for Oquossoc Day – Saturday, August 17th! Wild Western Maine is the Oquossoc Day theme for 2024 and offers fun for all ages. This all-day event kicks off at 10 a.m. in downtown Oquossoc and features an Arts, Crafts & Antiques Show, live music, a water ski show, and more. Attention Oxford County Residents! Join Sunday River for their Community Days happening Sundays through August. All residents can enjoy free axe throwing, archery, and $5 scenic lift rides up the Chondola. For more information about this event, click the link below.
Take a ride up the Rangeley Quad on Sundays for Saddleback’s Sunday Brunch. The Nest is Saddleback’s Mid-Mountain Lodge and at 3,600+ feet, you’re guaranteed to have amazing views. Lace up your running shoes and drive to Lost Valley tonight for their first Trails In The Valley event, a weekly running club that takes place every Friday at 6:00pm. Scenic Lift Rides are now open at Sunday River, Saddleback, and Sugarloaf! Take a ride up Sunday River’s Chondola, Saddleback’s Rangeley Quad, or Sugarloaf’s Whiffletree to enjoy awesome views of the surrounding mountains. To learn more about hours and to purchase your ticket, click the link below.
Time to tee off, Mainely Skiers! All golf courses are open and looking good. Your location tells you a lot about where your next round will be played, but I can assure you that wherever you go, you’ll have a great time out on the course. When outside, remember to bring sunscreen, bug spray, water, and tick repellent. It’s also a good idea to wear pants to protect yourself against ticks. Do tick checks often and always.
Across the state, there are three mountains that are installing chairlifts. Pleasant Mountain is installing a refurbished Doppelmayr High-Speed Quad, BigRock Mountain is installing a new Doppelmayr Quad, and Lost Valley is installing a used Hall Double Chair.
Please Note: Due to lift construction, hiking at Pleasant Mountain is currently prohibited.

Nick Casey Band Live At Saddleback:
On Thursday, August 15th, Saddleback welcomes the Nick Casey Band. Hailing from the state of Rhode Island, Nick has been performing all throughout New England for over 10 years. Presented with the award for “Male Performer of the Year” at the 2023 New England Music Awards. Tickets are $15 for children and $20 for adults. After a week of harsh weather, mostly caused by the hurricane coming up the East Coast, it finally looks like we’re out of the rain. If anyone needs any assistance during this time, please feel free to reach out!
Thank goodness the storm is over! The extended forecast is looking relatively dry with warm temps. Hopefully, the sun tomorrow will dry some areas up and help with the storm damage that many Americans are facing right now.
