    Maine Foliage Report:

The Maine Foliage Report brought to you by MaineFoliage.com

AUGUSTA, Maine – The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) has released its final Foliage reportfor the season, indicating peak and past-peak conditions throughout most of Maine. As the weekend approaches, coastal areas are nearing peak color, with moderate leaf drop expected (70-100 percent) across the state.

    This Week’s Foliage Outlook

“The entire state of Maine is ablaze with vibrant fall colors this weekend,” said Gale Ross, fall foliage spokesperson. “But along the coast, you’ll still find green oaks creating a striking contrast. I like to call this ‘Maines weekend’. With the holiday traffic behind us, it’s the perfect time to take a scenic drive, hike, or bike ride and enjoy the colors with fewer crowds. Even past peak remains beautifully colorful and photo-worthy.”

Ross added, “As we wrap up another stunning foliage season, thank you to everyone who loves and celebrates Maine in the fall. And remember, there’s still time to experience our seasonal beauty and enjoy fall-inspired events and activities!”

    Maine Foliage Report:

The Maine Foliage Report brought to you by MaineFoliage.com

AUGUSTA, Maine – The fourth 2024 Fall Foliage Report from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) indicates low to high color change (less than 70 percent) throughout most of the state. As of October 2, the DACF Maine Forest Rangers report peak color conditions (70-100 percent) in northern and northeastern Maine, with moderate to low leaf drop (30-50 percent).

Fall colors across the state progress from north to south through mid-October. Coastal Maine typically reaches peak color during mid to late October.

    This Week’s Foliage Outlook

“While we are seeing peak conditions in northern Maine and high color in portions of the western mountains, colors are still emerging daily in central and coastal regions of the state,” said Gale Ross, fall foliage spokesperson. Weather going forward includes seasonal day and cooler nighttime temperatures without a killing frost, which brings about the un-be-leaf-able colors of Maine as it sheds its autumn glory in the next few weeks.

The Sugarloaf parks crew has been hard at work this summer relocating some terrain parks to the Whiffletree area, opening up 12 new acres of cruising terrain. The new parks are below.

Skybound (S) – Located under the Whiffletree lift, this short and small terrain park is built for beginners learning how to ride.
Jill Poke (S/M) – Just under the unloading area of the Whiffletree Quad, this park gets skiers and riders into the terrain park life with small and medium features.
Cruiser (M) – Located on the Cruiser trail, this park features medium-sized features with jumps, rails, boxes, and more! Follow the terrain park crew to stay in the loop with any changes to this park!
The Yard (M/L) – Located near the bottom of Whiffletree, this park changes quite frequently.

    West Mountain Expansion:

New snowmaking, the construction of a wind fence, and other improvements will now allow for all 12 of the new trails to be open and skiable this year. Sugarloaf says the improvements will “offer an unforgettable experience for winter enthusiasts of all ages.”

    Base Area Info:

L.L. Bean is opening an outlet store where Life Is Good formerly was located, plus stay tuned for a new restaurant joining the Village Center scene.

    Maine Foliage Report:

The Maine Foliage Report brought to you by MaineFoliage.com

AUGUSTA, Maine – With the official arrival of autumn, Mainers and leaf-peeping enthusiasts can look forward to the fall colors spreading throughout Maine. The third 2024 Fall Foliage Report from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) reports moderate to high color change (50-70 percent) throughout most of Maine with low to moderate leaf drop (less than 50 percent).

    This Week’s Foliage Outlook

Northern Maine (zones six and seven) is on track to reach peak conditions during the first week of October. Fall colors in all other areas of the state will occur from north to south through mid-October. Coastal Maine typically reaches peak color during mid-to-late October.

“It’s fall y’all…which means it’s officially sweater weather in Maine! We have experienced a bit of a drought the past several weeks, which can delay or accelerate the fall colors. I believe Maine is in the goldilocks position (not too dry, not too wet, without a killing frost) to accelerate the best fall colors in the upcoming weeks,” said Gale Ross, fall foliage spokesperson.

AUGUSTA, Maine – The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) has released its second 2024 Maine Fall Foliage Report, showing very low color change (less than 30 percent) throughout the state. As of September 18, 2024, DACF Maine Forest Service Rangers in northern Maine report moderate color change (less than 50 percent), with very low to low leaf drop throughout the entire state

Typically, northern Maine (zones 6 and 7) reaches peak conditions between the last week of September and the first week of October. Color change moves from north to south, with peak conditions for the rest of the state expected by mid-October. Coastal Maine usually experiences peak foliage from mid-to-late October.

    Maine Foliage Report:

The Maine Foliage Report brought to you by MaineFoliage.com

(AUGUSTA, Maine) – As the vibrant colors of autumn begin to emerge, the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) is excited to announce the official start of the 2024 foliage season, tracked and reported by DACF Fall Foliage Spokesperson Gale Ross. Since 1959, when Commissioner of Forestry Austin Wilkins initiated the first weekly foliage reports, Maine has captivated visitors and locals with its outstanding autumn beauty. Now 65 years strong, this tradition continues to draw leaf peepers from near and far, enhancing their experience with detailed, timely updates.

    This Week’s Foliage Outlook

“This summer was one for the record books! We had an abundance of daily sunshine with just the right amount of rainfall has set the stage for a breathtaking foliage season,” said Ross. “However, I’d like to remind fall foliage enthusiasts that the color change and timing depends on the weather going forward. The cooler nighttime temperatures and shorter days enhance the progression of color,” added Ross.

Aaron Bergdahl, forest pathologist with DACF, states, “The growing season of 2024 has been excellent for trees, supporting tree health and resilience that should lead to brilliant fall colors throughout Maine.”

Typically, northern Maine (zones 6 and 7) reach peak conditions the last week of September into the first week of October. The rest of the state’s color progression starts occurring from north to south in mid-October. Coastal Maine typically reaches peak conditions in mid-to-late October.

Looking For A Rangeley Double Chair:

Hey Mainely Skiers! I’ve been looking for a chair from Saddleback’s Rangeley Double pretty much since they removed the lift in 2020. I would love to find one that matches the following description:

    • Intact (Nothing was destroyed)
    • Not altered in any way (looks like it could be put back on the line)
    • Safety Bar is still functional on the chair

If you or someone you know is selling a chair, please email me using the email below. Thank you so much!! – Keegan

Your location tells you a lot about where your next round will be played, but I can assure you that wherever you go, you’ll have a great time out on the course. When outside, remember to bring sunscreen, bug spray, water, and tick repellent. It’s also a good idea to wear pants to protect yourself against ticks. Do tick checks often!
