Sugarloaf Marathon:

The Sugarloaf Marathon is an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon. We are certified by the United States Track and Field Association (USATF) as an official sanctioned event. Over the years the Sugarloaf Marathon has become extremely popular among running enthusiasts from around the world. With a strict limit of 2,000 participants, this race will sell out. In 2018, 30.1% of finishers qualified for the Boston Marathon making Sugarloaf the fastest course in Maine and one of the top in the nation.

Located in the mountains of Western Maine, the Sugarloaf Marathon follows scenic route 27 as it winds through the Bigelow Mountain range and follows the Carrabassett River. The course starts in the town of Eustis, travels through Carrabassett Valley and finishes in the town of Kingfield. The first 5 miles of the race are relatively flat, miles 5-10 consist of rolling hills with a steady two-mile climb at mile 8. The last 16 miles has a gradual decent with an elevation loss of 980 feet. Marathon runners continue to record personal-best times while racing Sugarloaf.

  • Marathon Start Address:
    Cathedral Pines Campground
    945 Arnold Trail
    Eustis, ME 04936
  • Marathon Start Time:
7:00am – Runners and walkers will start at the same time. We ask that walkers start in the far back of the pack.
  • Sugarloaf 15K
The Sugarloaf 15K takes place on the last half of the marathon course, starting in Carrabassett Valley and following the Carrabassett River to the town of Kingfield. The course has an elevation loss of 300 feet from start to finish. The course stays on scenic Route 27 with no turns or intersections until the finish line.

Weather:

As the weather is looking right now, Friday is a no-go – well, unless you want to get wet. For all the other “fair weather” skiers, like myself, we’ll snag the first chair on Saturday. Fortanly the rain doesn’t look like it’s going to do much damage to the slopes. Pray for snow!

Last Chair:

What a beautiful week for Maine skiers and riders. With Mother Nature generously dropping over 2 feet of fresh snow across many mountains, it made for good skiing. You still can find those special pow stashes if you know where to look! If you’re ripping it up on the slopes this winter, make sure to tag us on Twitter (@mainelyskiing) and we’ll repost!

Weather:

If you’re planning on going out for today or tomorrow, you might want to invest in some Gore-Tex if you haven’t already. Warm and dry is the name of the game. It’s shaping up to be a wet weekend with some areas calling for around 3 inches of rain. Don’t worry though, as man-made snow holds up better to rain and thaw events than natural snow.

Make sure to check out the Mountain Lift Status as the weather for this extended weekend might be interesting. Click the link below for more.

Saddleback Ski Patrol:

As we gear up for an incredible ski season, consider sponsoring a Saddleback Ski Patroller! Did you know a volunteer ski patroller spends $87 on fees and registration plus gas and lodging for two days of training before even getting on the mountain? You can help offset that cost so our patrollers can keep doing what they do best! To donate, click the link below.
