BIG News From Sunday River:

Just announced – Two new lifts will be taking skiers and riders up the mountains of Sunday River. A new Merrill Hill Triple will access the back side of the mountain and add to the Real Estate options and ski-in, and ski-out house lots. Also, the most highly anticipated announcement, a brand new, Doppelmayr High-Speed, 6-Person Bubble chair will replace the Barker Mountain Express. Both lift upgrades are expected to open for the 2023-2024 ski season. For the latest on the Sunday River 2030 project, click the link below.

Last Chair:

Hip, hip, hooray, we had a few pow days! Thanks to Mother Nature giving us back-to-back snow storms. The heavy, wet snow, is awesome for base building so we should be skiing well into April! If you’re ripping it up on the slopes this winter, make sure to tag us on Twitter (@mainelyskiing) and we’ll repost!

We have the chance to see some significant snow totals next Wednesday, February 1. Make sure to do those snow dances, wear your clothes inside out, or whatever you do to get good luck. #WinterIsntOver

While you can catch some pretty amazing sunsets, you also are able to watch crews working. This past week, they strung the haul rope and the aXess gates are installed. Now that all the Maine ski resorts are closed, it’s time to start thinking about summer. After all, the Maine Warden Service declared official ice-out on Rangeley Lake on May 5, at 5:00am. Quill Hill:

Have you ever wanted a 360-degree view of a sunset in the Western Maine mountains? Take a trip up to the summit of Quill Hill. With picnic tables at the top, even lunch up there is spectacular! For more information, click on their website!

Saddleback Mountain Biking:

Last summer, Saddleback opened up its own mountain biking trails on the mountain. This summer they are back with lift-serviced downhill mountain biking accessed via the South Branch Quad. Saddleback officials say they expect the lift to start spinning around late July. For more information, click the link below.

What a nice week to be outside in Maine. Myself and many others rocked t-shirts this week. In fact, I might have to take a dip in Rangeley Lake! Friday, the nice weather will continue, however, Saturday and Sunday look like possible thunderstorms.

Happy April! Personally, I’m hoping we have a snowy april. The whole “April showers bring May flowers” thing needs to chill out… unless we’re talking snow showers! See the upcoming weather below.

Shawnee Peak:

This weekend is the final weekend for lift-served downhill skiing and riding at Shawnee Peak. Come out and ski in style. They have full snow cover on almost all their trails. Go and ski out the end of the 2021/22 ski season. Learn more below.

Jordan Lift Final Send-Off:

Join us at Jordan Bowl at Sunday River this weekend for the Jordan Express Lift’s final days.

  • Lift line dancing with bumpin’ music.
  • Sign your name on the good-bye board at the base.
  • Pick up an exclusive Jordan sticker.
  • Head up to Slider’s deck for food and drinks featuring last chair specials.

Fun In Downtown Rangeley:

Winter Fun in Downtown Rangeley continues Saturday night from 5-7pm on Main Street, Rangeley. This event is free to everyone and is being put on by our friends at Morton and Furbish. Big Rock:

Big Rock ski area is a small, family-friendly mountain located in Mars Hill. If you’ve ever skied there, you know the lift system is one like Saddleback before it closed. The main lift up the mountain is a double chair which is slow. The lifts around the base area have higher capacity than their own main lift up the mountain. Help the people of Mars Hill grow their mountain and bring it up to current lift standards. To learn more about their efforts and to donate, click the link below.
